I can't beleive that they went to see the Bangles. I used to love them! One of the first tapes I ever bought was their album with "Walk like an Egyptian" and "Manic Monday" on it! However, my husband and I watched "Double Date" from season one over our lunch of leftovers. Oh Lane! Her mom is the vertically-challenged Korean version of Hitler sans mustache. I have been on very few double dates, but for the most part they wer well thought out and decently successful. Usually the occasion was a simple one (such as a movie) and for the most part, all of the attendees already had well-established friendhips prior to the date. Now when I go on a double date, it's not really a date per se because I'm married and it usually entails hanging out and cooking dinner with other couples. We rarely go out anywhere; there are too many domestic demands (i.e. newborn baby Miles). But watching this episode brought back memories for me of the high school dating game: an amusement that I really don't miss.

Gilmore Girls hangover...

So we decided to not only watch our season one DVD but to also catch an episode here and there on ABC family, and even occasionally a new episode. Well, of course last night was Tuesday so my husband and I decided to snuggle up to a fresh episode of GG. All I have to say is: WOW! It's really weird to go from watching "Paris is Burning" (S1) to last night's episode "The Party's Over" (S5). Total difference! I'm going to try to comment on this episode the best I can without having seen seasons two, three, and, four.

I know this is sort of out of order but...Rory, what are you doing? Why didn't she go after Dean? She comes running out of her grandparents' pool house like the rich-boy-fraternity's most recent blow-up doll then simply allows Dean to speed away in his truck without even a murmur of regret. I'm trying to see this situation using several lenses, but it's hard to remove the last scene of the show from my memory: our beloved Rory, academic goddess, stumbling out of the back of a limo, dress straps and tendrils flailing, make-up smeared, leaving behind the ferocious gargling of a temporarily annexed version of the skull and bones. It's just hard to be compassionate. I really like Dean (of course, I'm still mostly involved with mid-season one where Dean was still in favor) and I know that Rory has the ability to marry some wealthy bachelor of whom her grandparents would unanimously approve, but it's difficult to separate oneself from first loves. And I know that although it wasn't verbally expressed, Rory probably did regret letting Dean ride into the distance on his not-so-white horse.

Right now, I need to shower and make lunch so hopefully I'll post more later!!!

Welcome to Stars Hollow...

I decided to start a Gilmore Girls blog because I just started getting into the show and I wanted to chronicle my experiences watching it. It all started when my husband and I stumbled across a syndicated version of GG on ABC family. It's the episode in which Rory is reading James Joyce's Ulysses which is a favorite book of ours. I'm an English major and my husband is a Liberal Arts major (for now). Now--I can' tell you the name of this episode because we haven't gotten to it on our Season One DVD yet. However, it only took one small sliver of Gilmore magnificence for us to be hooked (i.e. Lane and Rory...walking in a parking lot?...Rory has Ulysses in her hand...). I bought my husband the Season One DVD, and we've been watching an episode at every chance we get. We are obsessed! But its literariness (yes...that's a word!) is what lured me back to watching television again. It's well written and brimming with references about anything from books to pop culture. So here's to the best show on TV!!!
